Language, Identity and Diversity

Language, Identity and Multicultural Education

Teacher identity, 21st Century Skills, and world language education are essential components for building a multicultural/multilingual community of excellence. Through activities and real-world examples, it is helpful to explore the role that culture and language play in global education initiatives. Teachers are encouraged to explore both the identities of their students as well as their own, as these identities have profound effects on classroom practice. Identity can be represented in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, economic status, language, religion, learning styles, ability, special needs, sexual orientation, and others.
